Tianzifang (田子坊) is a small enclave within the French Concession area of Shanghai. It used to be a traditional residential area that was recently renovated and it now houses restaurants, shops, art galleries and studios among its abundance of small businesses. What’s cute about it is that it hasn’t been polished and beautified much and has kept some of its original charm. It’s not visible from the street, as it’s formed of small alleyways off Taikang Road.
Nowadays it’s a popular tourist destination in Shanghai and you can spend hours browsing around the shops and having snacks or a meal along the way. Last time I was there it was in the evening and most of the shops were closed. Which was ok at the time because I was just looking for a toilet themed restaurant to have my dinner in! And it was still there this time, too!
But this time I was there during daytime, so I had the chance to stroll around the shopping area and here are some of the coolest things I came across:
So, next time you’re in Shanghai and its vicinity, you might wanna avoid the usual fake stuff markets and visit Tianzifang for some more original items! Or at least spare some time for it, too!
