There’s a quirky little café in Vienna, Austria filled with nostalgia and grandmother love! Vollpension Vienna is a café designed to look like an austrian grandma’s house. And if you’re not familiar with austrian grannies, let me just tell you that certain things are universal: Imagine old furniture, wooden toys, frames with photos from another era, vintage lamps and retro decor items. And of course cake baking!
Does it sound a bit like your own grandmother?
In Vollpension Vienna you will see Oma (German for granny) in the kitchen preparing her homemade sweets for you. In fact there’s more than one Oma, which is great, as Vollpension (Full board in English) is an intergenerational coffeehouse which aims to bring people from different generations together. By doing so, it gives the chance to elderly women to showcase their baking skills and to younger people to experience homemade delicacies that only our grandmas are capable of creating! I’ve heard that Opa (German for granddad) shows up from time to time, too!
What’s in the menu?
Naturally, expect to see mainly austrian dishes (don’t expect many egg variations for breakfast) and some interesting drinks as well. I tried their pear juice and my café latte was served in a tall glass! Of course they do stand out for their freshly baked cakes!
There are both breakfast and lunch options. Opa Pikant and the rest of the Frühstück options will make you feel like you woke up late at granny’s and she prepared some fresh food for you!
Vegetarian and vegan options are, also, available.
The prices are reasonable.
Do bear in mind that Wien Vollpension is a mainly self service establishment, except on weekends and bank holidays.
